Most of the personal care products such as moisturizer, body wash and cleansers may have synthetic chemicals. In most of the countries labeling laws differ. Commercial cheap personal products have them even if they are not mentioned in the labels. Recently FDA requires that all skin care product manufactures should list their ingredients in order of highest concentration first.
Parabens include methylparaben, propylparaben, Hso parabens and butyl parabens etc. All these compounds are widely used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Dibutyl pthalate, butyl ester has been proved to be carcinogens yet they are used as lubricants in cosmetics. After the year 1940, the effect of phthalates, on male reproductive development, has been proved through researches. They are supposed to interfere with endocrine functions, yet they are used in personal care product formulations.
Petrochemicals used in cosmetic industries have been taken up for scientific studies. For example, fast c blue, no1 diammonium chloride phosphates are the commonly used dye colorants. As natural colors and dyes are costlier, commercial personal products are formulated with these dye colors. These have been proven carcinogens.
Sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, Diazolidinyl urea or iodo propynyl butyl carbamate are preservatives used for increasing the shelf life of these products. It is banned in Europe but other countries have this ingredient as foam booster. Before you chose a particular personal care product go through the label carefully whether it contains any of these harmful chemicals. Natural personal care products may be costlier than the commercial personal products. But they are safe for your skin in fact many of the herbs could protect skin from free radical activity.
Natural personal care products include oils herbs and they will be free from any of these chemicals. These products have cold pressed virgin oils such as coconut oil, moringa oil, olive oil, sesame oil, which have rich antioxidants. It is surprising to know that all the oils exhibit antibacterial antifungal properties to get long term benefits for the users.
